We are back from Japan!  It was honestly one of the best tours we have ever had, and we couldn’t have had a better time.  At some point, I hope to type up a journal of sorts of all the great times we had, but this update is going to have to suffice for now.  We want to thank Tak and everyone who made the trip special, and we can’t wait to come back.

As many of you have already noticed, we brought some cool souvenirs back with us- including our new 7″, Home After Three Months, the new Middle Discography CD, and restocks of the Japanese Imports of What It Takes to Move Forward.  We are already sold out of the Clear variant of the 7″, but there are still some Cream ones left, so get on them while they are still available.

Cool thumbnails!:

On the note of tours, we are about to embark on quite a few more, all within the confines of our lovely country.  The first of such will be in late August with our friends Mountains for Clouds.  Details on that will be up very soon!

We are hoping to have our new 7″ from Topshelf (succinctly titled “On Time Spent Waiting, or Placing the Weight of the World on the Shoulders of Those You Love the Most“) by then.  In the meantime, you can hear a new song the aforementioned release (forgive me if I don’t want to retype it) on the new Topshelf Sampler, which you can download for a “like” or a tweet:

Take a look at how gorgeous these look:

And Friday also marks the release date for Middle Discography!  I’m not sure I’ve ever played a release show for two releases at one time!

Anyway, we are beyond excited to get the chance to go Japan, and we can’t wait to meet so many amazing people!  Cathy and I are also lucky to have Andrew from Mountains for Clouds and Barry from Driving on City Sidewalks filling out our band, and our great friend Ryan along for the ride.  Wish us luck on other side of the world!

Big news on the Empire! Empire! front!  It feels so crazy to even be typing this, but WE ARE GOING TO JAPAN!  Heck yeah!  Not only are we touring Japan, but we are also releasing a brand new 7″ with our Japanese label Stiff Slack, entitled “Home After Three Months Away”, which will include 4 new songs!  (4 is a landmark number for a 7″ for empire, as our previous high is 2, haha.)

Here are the tour dates:

16th July / Nagoya KD JAPAN

17th July / Tokyo RIPS
with MALEGOAT and more

18th July / Tokyo O-NEST

19th July / Kyoto METRO
with TBA

20th July / Osaka PANGEA
with CARD and more

Stiff Slack will also be releasing an extended version of Early Discography on CD for the tour (with a new bonus track, of course), which should drive collectors nuts.  We are a collectors nightmare.

We will be posting a new track from the 7″ sometime in the next coming weeks.

Declaration of Intent

Hello all!

We have some news to share with everyone, though it isn’t really “new” news, per se. We just wanted to say that we have formally stopped looking for a drummer and a bassist. Actually, we never really looked all that hard in the first place, and things sort of just naturally went back to the state in which we started the band. This is actually easier for us. We have plenty of amazing friends who have been super kind enough to fill in for our missing members in the past, and hopefully will do so in the future. Jon and DJ (our old drummer and bassist, respectively) are filling in for us next weekend for the last Joie show ever, for example.

That’s not to say that if we didn’t find the right people that we would at all be opposed to bringing them into the fold as full-time members. But for now, at least, it’s back to me and Cathy, and things are going well. I am also back to playing bass and drums too. We have written a whole bunch of new material (some of which you will be seeing very soon), and we plan on writing a whole lot more. The tentative plan is to get all the odds and ends out of the way (read: split 7″/7″ ‘s galore), and then start writing for a new full length in the fall.

To that end, we are cutting back a little bit on the show front for now and focusing on writing. We are going to do a summer tour or two, but we will get to those later.

As for the questions about the 7″ coming out on Topshelf (mainly, when the hell is it ever coming out, or, does it actually exist?)- it’s all recorded, but we are still waiting on some guest vocals before we can get it mastered and on it’s way. I know that this has been, what, coming up to a year of waiting, but these jams are killer, we swear.

Shows coming up!

First of all, a reminder to everyone that we did have to drop off Bledfest. Again, we apologize to Nate/fusion shows, but since it happen to fall on the same weekend as the last Joie de Vivre show ever, there was no choice as to what we could do. THOSE DUDES ARE OUR BESTIES! We are going to miss the crap out of them. We are also playing a show the day before on the way down there with our pals in William Bonney and more in South Bend, IN.

Here are the Facebook events for those:
5/27- South Bend, IN:
5/28- Rockford, IL:

I know I suck at updates, so I will try and do this more often. HEY, GET OFF MY BACK, I’M SEEMINGLY BUSY.

There, at last, we have a proper home on the web! It’s hard to find time to do things like these nowadays, but it feels great to have something up. Not everything is 100%, but it’s all pretty close. Not only are there going to be new news items here, but I also took the painstakingly long process of copying over all of the old posts from our old blog. We have a lot of new news to share, but my wrist is swollen from our softball game tonight (and typing and making this webpage didn’t help), so that will have to wait. For now, bask in the glory that is a functional website! Also, first person to name the sprites from the game in our banner via facebook gets a free download of our early discography tape. Those of who happen to randomly read this before I post about it tomorrow when I wake up (see: 1pm) have a jump on everyone else. Except nerds. Those guys always have the jump.
